When I was uploading my 48th book on Bookfunnel, I thought, let me share one of the doubts of my author friend who asked the difference between Exclusive Swap and Mention Swap. Let me answer,

1. In an exclusive swap, both authors agree to promote only each other’s books in a specific email or campaign without any other books being included. This focused, one-on-one exchange typically works best if both authors have similar readership sizes and target audiences, ensuring more dedicated visibility.

2. A mention swap is less formal than an exclusive swap. Authors agree to mention each other’s books in their newsletters or promotions without exclusivity. The mention can be part of a more extensive list of recommendations, so the promotion isn’t limited to just one author. It’s a casual way to cross-promote with more flexibility.

3. There is one more Swap called Feature Swap.

In this Swap, authors agree to prominently place or “feature” each other’s books in their newsletters or other promotional channels. Although other books may be mentioned in the newsletter, the feature swap ensures a prominent spotlight, often including a detailed description, book cover, or call to action.
