Healing is indeed a natural phenomenon. Our bodies have incredible mechanisms for repairing and rejuvenating themselves after injury or illness. Whether it’s a small cut healing over time or a more complex process like recovering from a sickness, our bodies are equipped with intricate systems that work together to restore health and balance. Alongside physical healing, there’s also the aspect of emotional and psychological healing, which involves our minds and spirits finding resilience and peace after experiencing trauma or distress. It’s a beautiful and fascinating aspect of being human.

There’s certainly some truth about healing our scars. Mental and emotional well-being can have a significant impact on physical health and healing. Studies have shown that positive thinking, stress reduction, and emotional resilience can contribute to faster recovery times from injuries and illnesses. When you’re in a positive mental state, your body can often respond more efficiently to the healing process.

It may not be the sole determining factor in every case. Physical factors such as the severity of the injury or illness, overall health condition, and medical treatment also play crucial roles.

Cultivating a strong mental and emotional mindset can undoubtedly complement medical treatment and support the body’s natural healing abilities. Practices like mindfulness, meditation, and positive affirmations can be beneficial in promoting overall well-being and aiding in the healing journey.

Since my childhood, I’ve been profoundly inspired by a cricketer whose remarkable achievements transcended physical challenges. Allow me to recount the captivating tale of his legendary performance amidst enduring physical ailment.

Bhagwat Subramanya Chandrasekhar, the Indian Cricketer

Chandrasekhar, affectionately known as Chandra, is a former Indian cricketer whose story of triumph over adversity is truly inspiring. Despite being afflicted with polio at a young age, which left his right arm withered, Chandrasekhar rose to become one of the most feared leg spinners in cricket during the 1960s and 1970s.

Early Life and Challenge:

Born on May 17, 1945, in Mysore, Chandrasekhar’s encounter with polio at the age of six could have ended his sporting aspirations before they even began. However, his indomitable spirit and passion for cricket led him to overcome this challenge. By the age of 10, his hand had recovered sufficiently for him to start playing cricket.

Cricketing Career:

Chandrasekhar’s unique bowling style was a result of his condition, which made his deliveries particularly difficult for batsmen to read. His debut for India came against England in Bombay in 1964, where he collected four wickets in the match. He quickly became a key member of the Indian spin quartet, alongside E.A.S. Prasanna, Bishen Singh Bedi, and Srinivasa Raghavan Venkataraghavan, which dominated spin bowling in that era.

Legacy and Recognition:

Over his 16-year career, Chandrasekhar played 58 Test matches and captured 242 wickets at an average of 29.74. I am writing about his success story when he has completed his 79th birthday and coincidentally I am reminded of his best bowling figures of 8/79 and the remarkable feat of taking more wickets than the total runs he scored in his career highlight his prowess as a bowler. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1972, named a Wisden Cricketer of the Year the same year, and in 2002, he won Wisden’s award for the “Best bowling performance of the century” for India, for his six wickets for 38 runs against England at the Oval in 1971.
