I am KR Goswami, retired from Indian Air Force after 15 years of active service. I was trained in technical stream and mainly worked for the aero engines of various aircrafts including fighters and bombers. I had specialisation in aero engines of France made helicopters called Alouette which is known as chetak and cheetah in Indian set up. I served mainly in Western Air Command and South Western Air Command in different units of Air Force and Army.
I got the chance to use high tech machines and equipment including sophisticated Arms and Ammunitions. The equipment and machineries are out of reach to normal citizens due to legal, economical and technical aspects. I could not have dreamed for operating or rather seeing these kind of equipment if I had not joined the defence force. No other profession in the world had given me the opportunity of operating these high tech machinery.
It was not a 9 to 5 standard job. I do not consider it as job itself but an opportunity and way of life for me and my family to respond actively in any adverse situations. It was different life style to learn, interact and travel to different locations and inspire people to generate the feelings to fight for the country. Defence force provides the platform to the youth to develop physical standard and mental toughness. In all the prevailing situation it gives the opportunity to test your limit and achieve your targets and make your approaches result oriented.
It is not necessary that you apply your all the skills to defence force only, there are various professions and different spheres as everybody is soldier. Only thing that some of them are with uniform and some of them are not but lastly I want to mention One of the most important lessons which I have learned from defence force is the ability to stand up after every failure.
